Central Coast Mariners Continue to Impress

If there's one team that has impressed in the A-League that would have to be the Central Coast Mariners. The first five rounds of the competition the Mariners have climbed to second after last week's draw with top side Adelaide.

The Mariners are hope for strong turnout on Friday when they play against Melbourne Victory. One of the favourites to win the league, Melbourne had their first win last week. Victory may have bounced back but they will have a tough match ahead.

Round 6 A-League Preview

Round 6 of the A-League continues with the following matches:

Friday 30 September 2005.
Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne Victory
This will be a tight match and the Mariners will be hard to beat. Victory may have opened a winning streak though so it will most likely be a draw 2-2.

Saturday 1 October 2005.
Newcastle Jets vs Queensland Roar
The Jets should be able to win at home, 2-1.

Perth Glory vs Sydney FC
A clash that may well end up in a draw, my prediction 1-1.

Sunday 2 October 2005.
NZ Knights vs Adelaide United
Adelaide travel to New Zealand to meet and beat the Knights. Should be an easy win and we could see plenty of goals. My prediction 0-3 to Adelaide.

Round 5: Adelaide United vs CC Mariners

Adelaide United is undefeated in the Hyundai A-League season. A 1-1 draw with the Central Coast Mariners at Hindmarsh Stadium strengthened Adelaide's position at the top of the ladder.

Despite Adelaide's good form this was a very good match for the CC Mariners as they struggled with injuries. Even the assistant coach had to be called to field duty!

Good result for both teams but all credit to the CC Mariners.

SBS Match Commentary.

Round 5: Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets

Archie Thompson scored the all-important goal and the first A-League win for Melbourne Victory. A header in the 67th minute sped past the Jets' goalie as the 13,881 crowd roared. The match between the Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets was one of the most entertaining.

Next weekend Victory face the Mariners as the Jets attempt to down the Roar.

CC Mariners Assistant Coach Drafted!

With six Central Coast Mariners players injured the assistant coach has been drafted into the playing squad!

Ian Ferguson a former Glasgow Rangers players and the Mariner's assistant coach will be playing tonight in Adelaide.

Adelaide United are a $1.90 chance while the CC Mariners are a $3.80 chance. A draw will give $3.30 at Sportingbet.

Round 5: Queensland Roar vs Sydney FC

Queensland Roar's defense made some crucial errors that gave Sydney FC a 1-3 victory. It was not a good day for the Roar and only enjoyed a slight spell of success at the beginning of the second half. Sydney's Dwight Yorke kept the pressure at the front.

SBS Match Commentary.

Round 5: New Zealand Knights vs Perth Glory

The Knights travelled far to be beaten by a single goal. Both teams needed a win coming back from a string of losses and only a few highlights this season.

Glory player Jamie Harnwell scores the much needed goal on the 67th minute. The Knights tried to get an equaliser but to no avail.

SBS Match Text Commentary.

Adelaide vs Central Coast Mariners

Adelaide United, the only unbeaten team in the A-League after four rounds, meets the Central Coast Mariners in a Sunday thriller. The CC Mariners will want to continue their good form after beating the A-league favourites Sydney FC last week.

Adelaide United will be the favourites to win but the Central Coast Mariners will provide good odds for the punters. Check out the latest odds at Sportingbet.

Melbourne Victory Panic Button

Tipped as future champs before the new A-League season started Melbourne Victory have only been able to pull three draws since Round 1. Victory sit only just ahead of New Zealand Knights and on goal difference.

Surely another loss would have someone push the panic button! Victory face Newcastle Jets on Sunday. The Jets are in form and will be hard to beat.

18 September, 2005

Round 4: Newcastle Jets vs New Zealand Knights

Newcastle Jets took a convincing 4-0 win over New Zealand Knights. Labinot Haliti scored in the 12th minute, Matt Thompson in the 26th minute, Stuart Musialik in the 37th minute and Nick Carle scored a penalty shot at the 71st minute.

Round 3: Central Coast Mariners vs New Zealand Knights

The New Zealand Knights shock the A-League and take a 0-2 win over the tough CC Mariners. New Zealand striker Simon Yeo and subsitute Sean Devine took the glory for the goals. Knights goalkeeper Danny Milosevic worked overtime to keep his goal clean.

SBS Match Text Commentary.

Round 3: Perth Glory vs Queensland Roar

Glory players Simon Colosimo and Bobby Despotovski struck goals each for a deserved win over the Roar. Queensland's only goal came at the 77th minute, which provided a nice tense finale.

Round 2: Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory

Melbourne Victory dominated the first half of the match and only bad luck kept the goal untouched until the 11th minute. Richard Kitzbichler scored the first goal but Glory midfielder/striker Adrian Carceras tied the game at half time. Bobby Despotovski scored again for the Glory at 56th minute. Melbourne's luck turned very late in the game when defender Kevin Muscat scored a late penalty goal and a salvaged a 2-2 draw.

Round 2: New Zealand Knights vs Sydney FC

The Knights tried hard to get a draw but Sydney had nothing to do with it. Sydney FC took their 1-0 lead into the break but the Knights' equaliser came from Joshua Rose on the 69th minute. Sydney scored quickly in the 74th minute and despite Knights' gallant efforts to tie the match again Sydney scored a third goal and a well-deserved win.

Final score 1-3, New Zealand Knights and Sydney FC.

Round 2: Adelaide United vs Queensland Roar

As each team hit the post with first-half shots the match could have gone either way. Adelaide pressured on and a 0-0 outcome did not satisfy it. For Roar the outcome was a relief and a good point. The ref gave out eight yellow cards in this match.

Final score 0-0 for Adelaide United and Queensland Roar.
