Round 14: Adelaide United vs Sydney FC

A thriller of a match with Sydney FC put Adelaide United five points clear at the head of the A-League. The visitors fought back hard to level the game 2-2 but it was Adelaide's Brazilian striker Fernando Rech's 83rd minute 20-metre shot that decided the match.

Adelaide beat Sydney FC 3-2 in a top clash and it would be fantastic to see these two teams battle it out for the A-League championship.

Round 13: Queensland Roar vs Newcastle Jets

The Jets continued their good form by beating the Roar in Queensland. The Jets hung on to intense pressure after Matt Thompson's early goal in the 35th minute. Roar had good chances especially in overtime when Jonathan Richter hit the crossbar.

Queensland coach Miron Bleiberg admitted his side's third home loss this season was a big disappointment. Roar missed the opportunity to jump into fourth place and now sits second last.

Round 13: Sydney FC vs Perth Glory

Perth Glory's Bobby Despotovski had the best chance of the night on the 13th minute hitting the crossbar. Other Glory players had their chances too, including Damian Mori, Billy Celeski, Naum Sekulovski and Nick Ward. Perth continued to shoot at the Sydney goal during the first half and early into the second half before the home team finally began to exert pressure.

Sydney did get into the game however neither side could net the ball. The match was great but the score was 0-0 at Aussie Stadium. Perth Glory should have won this match but was unlucky.

Adelaide United reclaimed top spot on the A-League ladder by beating New Zealand Knights 1-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium. Adelaide's Chinese striker Shengqing Qu scored the winner in the 38th minute. Adelaide have had difficulties winning at home but this time they completely outplayed the Knights.

The Central Coast Mariners have defeated a lacklustre Melbourne Victory at Olympic Park. Incredibly Socceroos and Victory striker Archie Thompson was sitting on the bench for the first 63 minutes. Perhaps it's a time to get a new coach for Melbourne!

Socceroos World Cup 2006

The Socceroos ended 32 years of failure with a dramatic victory on penalties over two-time World Cup champions Uruguay in their play-off for a place in the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.

The Australians triumphed 4-2 after goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer saved penalties from Dario Rodriguez and Marcelo Zalayeta in the shoot-out. The game was locked up at 1-1 on aggregate after extra time. Both teams had won their home games 1 to nil.

The Socceroos may just be the surprise team this time in the World Cup so look out for more good things from Australian soccer!!

Round 12: Sydney FC vs Queensland Roar

Sydney FC's David Zdrilic scored the only goal of the match on the 54th minute. The former Socceroo scored his first goal of the season to keep Sydney on top of the table, ahead of Adelaide on goal difference.

Sydney FC and Japanese soccer star Kazuyoshi Miura also made his A-League debut. Kazuyoshi Miura is considered a hero in Japan and a 40-strong Japanese media followed him to Australia and a Japanese TV station broadcasted the game back to Japan!

Queensland Roar took a deserved 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory in a match that saw frustrated Victory players Muscat and Claeys sent off. The only goal in the game came on the 15th mintue when Spase Dilevski passed to Alex Brosque, firing a shot that was deflected by goalie Eugene Galekovic, but then finished off by Matt McKay.

Round 11: New Zealand Knights vs Newcastle Jets

Ante Milicic from Newcastle Jets scored a hat-trick to beat New Zealand Knights on round 11 of the A-League at North Harbour Stadium on Friday night.

The Jets dominated the first half and as the second half began the score was already 4-0. Ante Milicic completed his hat-trick with a sublime chip over Knights' goalkeeper Danny Milosevic.

The Jets were getting very comfortable until the introduction of teenage New Zealand striker Jeremy Brockie who scored twice within five minutes (71' and 76'). This was a bit too late for the Knights but the teenager put on a good show.
