Sydney FC wins the A-League Championship
Sydney FC one of the hot favourites to win the league has done just that beating the Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in the final.
Sydney skipper Dwight Yorke lifted the A-League's inaugural championship trophy after proving the catalyst behind the home side's triumph.
The former Manchester United star set up the winner in the 62nd minute, toying with Mariners duo Andrew Clark and captain Noel Spencer in the penalty area before laying a perfect ball back for Steve Corica, who's thumping strike from 15 metres beat diving goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.
Despite the disappointment of losing the decider after dominating one half of football against the A-League's benchmark in Sydney FC, the league's achievers sought deserved smiles about beating the odds to reach this far.
The 41,689 Aussie Stadium crowd sang the house down for the majority of the 90 minutes of Australia's newest sporting spectacle.
